How do I find the right teacher?
All music teachers are not created equal. The teacher closest to where you live, or the one who charges the least, is not necessarily the best choice. You want a teacher who will inspire you or your child, and nurture you as you grow artistically--someone whose style and values are appropriate for your personality and learning style.
If your child is the one interested in music, it is especially important to find a good teacher. Teachers should have definite objectives and teaching techniques, and should be able and willing to explain them to you.
Through our affiliation with both WMTA and MTNA, our members are both very highly qualified and have the skills to provide you, or your child, with the key to establishing a lifelong love of music.
The Teacher Referral Service is designed for students looking for area teachers with openings in their studios. SPAMTA hopes this will be a valuable tool for the community as it may lessen the amount of time spent contacting teachers whose studios are full. As part of this program, SPAMTA maintains a current list of teachers who have current openings for new students. Only the names, contact information, location, and instruments of the teachers are listed; it is the responsibility of prospective students to research the background, qualifications, and success of a potential teacher.
